Like every year, on the occasion of World Environment Day on June 5, a rally and month-long tree plantation program is going on at the headquarters of Walton Hi-Tech Industries PLC in Chandra, Gazipur. The program is organized by Walton's Environment, Health and Safety (EHS) department.
As part of the programme, Environment Day was celebrated on Sunday (June 7) with various activities including tree plantation, colorful rally, idea sharing and discussion meeting under the theme 'Climate Change: Today's Action, Tomorrow's Security'. In the morning, the program was inaugurated by planting fruit and medicinal plants.
It has been reported that the World Environment Day celebration program started at Walton Headquarters from May 19 of this year with the initiative of EHS Department in various month-long events. As part of this, community awareness program, tree plantation program and special quiz competition on Environment, Climate Change and Biodiversity were celebrated today on 7th June at local Bishid Government Primary School. Besides, plastic collection and recycling from the surrounding area of ​​Walton Headquarters and awareness discussion about environment conservation and plastic pollution with the locals. A colorful rally was organized. Members of the Walton family took part in the rally carrying banners, festoons and placards with eco-friendly slogans.
At the end of the rally, various environmental awareness leaflets were distributed and campaigns were conducted. Apart from this, a discussion meeting was held on various issues including what to do to protect the environment and various initiatives taken by Walton. Speakers in the event highlighted the importance of environmental protection, sustainable production systems and raising awareness to combat the risks of climate change.
Additional Managing Director of Walton Hi-Tech Yusuf Ali and Head of EHS Department Mestafizur Rahman Raju among others were present at the headquarters along with senior officials.
Yusuf Ali, Additional Managing Director of Walton, said that Walton not only manufactures technology products but is also committed to protecting the environment from the beginning. Ensuring proper management of harmful chemicals in the factory premises, waste treatment and use of modern eco-friendly technologies to reduce carbon emissions. At the same time, he expressed his determination to strengthen this trend of building green factories by holding the global slogan of 2026.
EHS Department Head Mostafizur Rahman Raju said, “We are strictly following international standards to prevent negative impact on the environment in our industries. We have ensured safe management of hazardous chemicals, round-the-clock functioning of liquid waste treatment plants and 100% recycling of plastic and other waste. Today's plantation program and awareness campaign are part of our continuous efforts.”
Nasir Uddin, Head of Refrigerator Production Department, Kausar Uddin Chowdhury, Head of Human Resource Department and Tanveer Ahmed, Head of Administration Department spoke on the occasion.
