Younger brother killed in stabbing over land dispute, elder brother in hospital

A young man named Fahmid Rumon (18) was killed due to a dispute over land in Gaibandha. In this incident, the elder brother of the victim Fardin Ruhit (20) is under treatment in critical condition. After the incident, the accused fled, but the police arrested two women.

The incident took place in Purba Piarapur village of Sadar Upazila around 10:30 pm on Sunday (June 7).

According to the police and local sources, Ruhit, son of deceased Farooq of East Piarapur village, had a dispute over the land boundary of Rakib, son of Chana Haji of the same village. At around 9:30 pm on Sunday, when the two started arguing, Rakib hit Ruhit with a sharp knife.

When Ruhit's younger brother Rumon came forward, Rakib stabbed him too. Later, the locals rescued the two brothers and took them to Gaibandha General Hospital where the doctor on duty declared Rumon dead. Ruhit is seriously injured and is undergoing treatment at the hospital.

Gaibandha Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abdullah Al Mamun said on Sunday night on the phone that an operation is underway to arrest the accused in this incident. Rakib's mother Baby Begum and his wife Iti Begum have been detained for questioning. The case is pending.
