A rare and dangerous fungal disease 'Black Fungus' or Mucormycosis has spread in India amid the Corona epidemic. Alerts have been issued across the country. The infection of this fungus is increasing in different parts. Initially, this infection was more common in Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Telangana. Several thousand deaths occurred. A number of patients have been found to be newly infected with this fungus during recovery from Covid. In such a situation, this disease has also been declared as an epidemic. The authorities of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) have advised to rush the use of steroids in treatment due to the high incidence of such infections in corona patients.

Bangladesh is also suffering from India's black fungus. In the midst of such panic, for the first time in the country, 'black fungus' (black fungus) has been detected in the body of two people who have recovered from Corona. One person has already died.

Therefore, it is important to know what this black fungus is in such situations.

What is black fungus?

A type of fungal infection is occurring in the body of corona patients. His name is Black Fungus. In medical terms, this disease is identified as mucormycosis. If the body is weak, this fungus basically blocks the nest. If corona patients stay in ICU for a long time, or if steroids are used more on them, the immune system decreases. In such cases black fungus enters the body.

This fungus is not only spreading among corona patients. If a person's immune system is low, there is a risk of this infection. Immune power is decreasing due to Corona. As a result, black fungus is appearing more in the body of such patients.

It is a rare infection. According to various studies, black fungus infection was seen in the body of one in one lakh people before the spread of corona epidemic.

The death rate of this disease is quite high. Doctors say it is close to 50 percent.

In which type of patient is this infection seen more?

The crisis is increasing especially among diabetic patients. Cancer patients are also suffering from black fungus infection. Basically all the diseases that lower the body's immunity, there is a risk of deterioration of the condition if there is something like that before a covid infection. As a result, doctors throughout the country are requesting to keep blood sugar levels low.

Which part of the body spreads the infection?

The infection mainly spreads to the sinuses, brain and lungs. However, in some cases it has been seen to affect the esophagus, skin and other organs.

What are the symptoms of this infection?

Black spots on the nose, difficulty seeing, stuffy nose, runny nose are all symptoms of this disease. Black phlegm comes out from the nose. The inside of the nose becomes black. Pain in face, cheeks. In some cases, all those parts become paralyzed. If the infection spreads more, chest pain and breathing problems may also occur.

Why is it recommended to reduce the use of steroids to control the infection of black fungus?

Due to the use of steroids in the treatment of corona patients, the blood sugar level sometimes increases. Because of that, black fungus is getting a chance to nest in the patient's body. Especially when the corona patient is recovering quite a bit, the symptoms of this new infection appear. So it is recommended to use less steroids in corona-treatment. Doctors say this infection is most harmful in diabetic patients. Treatment is difficult if the infection is not caught early enough. Because, in such patients, the infection is seen to spread to the kidney very quickly.

How to be careful?

In addition to diabetes, Covid patients who have cancer, kidney disease or liver problems should be careful. Not only during corona treatment, but also after recovery. Because, even after recovering from corona and returning home, black fungus infection is appearing again many times. An ear, nose and throat doctor can also be consulted after returning home from the hospital. Apart from that, the blood glucose level should be checked.
