Israel's new prime minister is radical Bennett – TimesBD

An era of Benjamin Netanyahu's prime ministership is coming to an end. Far-right leader Naftali Bennett is going to be the new prime minister of Israel.

The BBC and Al-Jazeera reported on Thursday (June 3) that Israel's eight opposition parties have reached a compromise agreement to form a coalition government. Yair Lapid, leader of the centrist party Yes Atid, announced the compromise agreement.

According to the agreement, Yamina Party leader Naftali Bennett will serve as the country's prime minister for the first two years. Yair Lapid will then be Prime Minister for the remaining two years of the term.

Opposition parties have begun scrambling to form a government after Israel's president invited Benjamin Netanyahu to form a government after he failed.

Bennett's party won a crucial 6 seats in the 120-seat parliament, giving it a solid majority in the proposed opposition coalition.

The opposition to Netanyahu, who has been in power for a century, has little in common in political ideology, but they all come together in one place. Everyone is calling for an end to Netanyahu's rule. Netanyahu's Likud Party proposed power-sharing to Bennett and other party leaders. He proposed to divide the Prime Ministership in three phases. But there was no response to that proposal.

Naftali Bennett, a former commando, has become a successful businessman in the technology sector through his own efforts.

The BBC reported that Bennett, who is known as a radical right-winger, has made political life quite controversial before coming to power. This leader, who has rejected the idea of a Palestinian state, claims to be even more hardline than Benjamin Netanyahu.
