Young woman killed after gang rape, arrested 4

PBI has unraveled the mystery of the murder of a young woman named Halima Akhtar (19) in Ghazaria, Munshiganj after gang rape. The agency said that when four people were arrested and handed over to the court for their involvement in the incident, they gave a confessional statement.

This information was given in the press conference organized at Munshiganj PBI office on Sunday (May 31) around 7 pm. The arrested are Abu Kalam (48), Jamal Hossain (44), Alamin Pradhan (50) and Russell Mia (44).

In a press conference, PBI Munshiganj District Additional Superintendent of Police Achma Ara Jahan said that on May 29, the naval police recovered the melted body of an unidentified young woman from Fuldi River in Ghazaria. PBI's crime scene team identified the victim with the help of IT. In this incident, the victim's sister Hosneyara Akhtar filed a case of murder in Ghazaria Police Station and PBI started a shadow investigation.

He said that Abu Kalam used to get Tk 25 thousand and Russel Tk 10 thousand from Halima. Besides, Halima had a personal relationship with Jamal. The accused planned to kill Halima 15 days before the incident, fearing that the affair would be socially defamed.

This PBI official said, as per the plan, after the evening of May 26, Halima was called to the river bank of Bara Bhaterchar area. Later, the accused took her by boat to a corn field across the river and gang-raped her. After that Halima's clothes were wrapped around her neck and her body was thrown into the river after she was strangled to death. When the four arrested were handed over to the court, they gave a confessional statement under Section 164 of the Criminal Procedure Code. The investigation is continuing to ascertain whether anyone else is involved in the incident.
