Lieutenant General Mohammad Asadullah Minhajul Alam, NDU, PSC, Ph.D. met Prime Minister Tariq Rahman. He met the Prime Minister before leaving for Cyprus to serve as Force Commander of the United Nations Peacekeeping Mission.
The meeting was held at the Prime Minister's Office in the Cabinet Division of the Bangladesh Secretariat on Wednesday (June 3) at noon.
At that time, Prime Minister's Defense Adviser Brigadier General (Retd.) AKM Shamchul Islam was present.
Lt. General Minhajul Alam will leave Dhaka for the United Nations headquarters in New York next Friday (June 5). After completing his official activities there, he will assume responsibility as the 23rd Force Commander of the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus.
During the meeting with the Prime Minister, Bangladesh's role in UN peacekeeping operations, professionalism and reputation and glory of the armed forces in the international arena were discussed.
Minhajul Alam is the eighth army officer to serve as the Force Commander in the UN peacekeeping mission. Earlier, seven Bangladeshi army officers have successfully performed this duty in eight different countries at different times.
