On Saturday (June 6) morning, a journalist named Hossain Ali Babu was attacked while gathering news about the situation of people returning to work from home and the traffic situation on the occasion of Eid. The name of the detained youth is known to be Mohammad Jewel. Police are investigating to find out the real reason behind the attack.
According to the sources, Hossain Ali Babu was sitting in the police box at Gazipur Chowrasta after gathering the news and was doing official work. At that time, a young man entered there and ambushed him. A policeman on duty rushed to the spot after hearing the screams of the journalist during the attack. Later, with the help of locals, the accused was arrested and handed over to the police station.
Injured journalist Hossain Ali Babu said that he was on duty in the intersection area since morning. The attacker came several times and asked to know his identity, but he could not speak due to his busy schedule. Later, while working in the police box, the youth attacked him without any provocation.
“I have never seen that person before. I have no acquaintance or conflict with him,” he said.
An eyewitness, who did not wish to be named, said that drug addicts and robbers have been active in Gazipur Chowrasta area for a long time. Many times when journalists go to collect information on these issues, the criminals react negatively. It is necessary to investigate whether there is any reason behind the attack or not.
Meanwhile, the working journalists of Gazipur have expressed concern and anger over the attack on the journalist by openly entering the police box. They demanded a speedy investigation into the incident, finding out the real reason and taking legal action against the culprits.
Basan Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Haroon Or Rasheed said, “Initial interrogation seems that the detainee is mentally unstable. He said his mother is admitted in the hospital. The matter is being investigated seriously and he is being interrogated further.”
