About 300 Jamaat-e-Islami leaders joined BNP in Jhenaidah's Maheshpur. There are more than a hundred women among them.
The joining ceremony was organized on Friday (June 5) afternoon at Baghadanga Mohiuddin Secondary School ground in Maheshpur Upazila. Jamaat leaders and activists joined BNP by giving flowers to upazila BNP president Mehdi Hasan Roni.
Upazila BNP general secretary Dabir Uddin Biswas, organizing secretary Ziaur Rahman Zia, union BNP president Aminur Rahman Master, general secretary Mahmudur Rahman Futan and other union and ward level leaders were present.
Upazila BNP president Mehdi Hasan Roni said, “People of different political ideologies are joining BNP with confidence in BNP's people-oriented politics, martyred President Ziaur Rahman's ideals and Prime Minister Tariq Rahman's leadership. This will strengthen the party's organizational base.”
Upazila BNP general secretary Dabir Uddin Biswas said, “BNP is always on the streets in the movement to establish people's rights. That is why people of different parties and opinions are showing interest in joining BNP.”
One of the participants said, “I was associated with another political party for a long time. We joined this party with confidence in the activities and leadership of BNP. We will actively participate in the party's programs in the future.”
At the end of the ceremony, special prayers and prayers were offered for the souls of martyred President Ziaur Rahman and late Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia.
