Six journalists received 'Maulana Rashid Ahmad Press Legacy Award'


The prestigious 'Maulana Rashid Ahmad Press Legacy Award 2026' was handed over to six journalists for the first time in Sylhet.

On Friday night (June 5) in a grand event, the guests presented awards, certificates and honors to these journalists at a hotel auditorium in the city.

This award was given to three journalists for their courageous journalism during the July coup in the presence of Sudhijan in Sylhet. Besides, three more journalists were also given this prestigious award for their special contribution in their respective fields.

The event organized at Nirvana Inn Hallroom in the city was presided over by the Trustee of Mahmud Hossain Trust, the promoter of the award, Deputy Mayor of Tower Hamlets A. M. Ahid Ahmed.

BNP Chairman's advisor Mahidur Rahman, Shabi Prabir Deputy Vice-Chancellor Dr. Sajedul Karim, Administrator of Sylhet City Corporation-CSIC Abdul Qayyum Chowdhury, British Tribunal Judge Barrister Naz Khosru, former chairman of journalism department of Green University. Oliur Rahman, former central vice-president of BMA Prof. Dr. Shamimur Rahman, Divisional Director (Health) of Sylhet Dr. Mahbubul Alam, Vice Chairman of Red Crescent Society Sylhet Unit Badruzzaman Salim, Former President of Sylhet Chamber Khandkar Shipar Ahmad.

Commissioner of Sylhet Region of Bangladesh Scouts Mahius Sunnah Chowdhury Nargis, Editor-in-Chief of Daily Sylhet Mirror Ziaus Samch Shaheen, Joint News Editor of Kaler Kantha Partha Sarthi Das, Sylhet Representative of Basse Salim Awal, President of Sylhet Women's Chamber Lubana Yasmin Shampa also spoke on the occasion.

The guests gave awards to six journalists of Sylhet at the event. The awarded journalists are- veteran journalist Bashiruddin (Eminent Journalist Award) Shaheed ATM Turab (Posthumous Award) Harich Ali (Mafswal Journalism) Khabar Kagazi's own reporter Shakila Bobby (Print Media Category), Azhar Uddin Shimul of Channel 24 (Electronic Media) and Mohid Hossain of Daily Ekatar's Katha (Photo Journalism).

Speakers in the event said that a new chapter has been written in the history of journalism in Sylhet by awarding this award. It will be a milestone event to give awards to six journalists simultaneously in recognition of their professional standing.

Remembering the colorful professional life of late Rashid Ahmed, the speakers said that he has worked for public welfare throughout his life. His successors have also continued the trend, which is commendable. They all urged to continue this trend.
