There will be a fine for spitting on the streets of West Bengal. There will be a fine if the road is dirty. A ban has also been imposed on throwing waste plastic on the streets. From September 1, fines will be levied if the ban is violated. West Bengal Deputy Chief Minister and Municipal and Urban Development Minister Agnimitra Paul made such an announcement on Sunday.
Agnimitra held a meeting with Siliguri Municipality representatives during his visit to North Bengal on Sunday. After that, the minister told the reporters about the new government's decision to keep the city clean.
Agnimitra said, “Where you can't throw garbage, you can't throw drinking straws. If you dirty the road, it will be fine. There is also a ban on throwing dirty plastic on the road. It's polite if it's dirty, but why are we rude when it's on the road?”
The city minister said, “Urban Development Department is giving the next three months to correct the habit and raise awareness among the citizens. However, even after September, there will be a heavy fine if spitting is done.”
After coming to power, the BJP government launched the Swachh app in the state to keep the city clean. Common people are advised to take a picture and upload it to this app if they see dirt somewhere. The local city council will look at the picture and clear it. Those who complain and act will be notified that the problem has been resolved.
According to the current law in West Bengal, a fine of Rs 500 is usually imposed for spitting on the road. But during the Trinamool Congress government, effective action was not taken even though there was a law.
In such a situation, last Friday, the Urban and Urban Development Department issued 24-point guidelines to keep the cities of the state free of garbage and clean. It has been said that no spitting or littering can be done anywhere. Awareness campaign will be conducted for the first three months in this regard. Violation of this order from September 1 will be fined. Under no circumstances should city waste be transported in the open. Even temple flowers cannot be thrown everywhere. Roads and footpaths must be freed from encroachment. The State Public Works and Urban Development Department has ordered strict implementation of these guidelines in the areas of 119 Municipalities, 7 Municipal Corporations and 2 Notified Area Authorities.
