More than three hundred houses have been burnt in a terrible fire in Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia. At least 620 people have become homeless. The country's state media reported this information on Tuesday (June 2). News from Anadolu.

Citing local officials, the news agency 'Antara News' reported that the fire broke out late on Monday night in a densely populated residential area in the Kemayoran area of ​​Central Jakarta.

Sharifuddin, head of the Central Jakarta Fire and Rescue Agency, said that about 330 families in several blocks were severely damaged due to the rapid spread of the fire. “In all, about 620 people lost their livelihoods,” he said.

The fire brigade said that due to the densely populated area, there was a lot of speed to extinguish the fire. Rescue efforts were hampered by narrow and congested roads, crowds of eager people and residents desperately trying to retrieve their belongings after the fire broke out.

After several hours of efforts by 35 units of the fire brigade and 175 workers, the fire was completely brought under control at 4:15 am on Tuesday.

Officials said investigations are underway to determine the exact extent of the fire damage and emergency relief assistance is being arranged for displaced families.
