Advocate Shishir Monir of the Supreme Court has claimed that the notice given by the Ministry of Health to cancel the license of Ad-Deen Medical College Hospital in Moghbazar of the capital is 'illegal'. At the same time he announced to take legal action against this notice.
He said these things at a press conference organized by the hospital authorities regarding the death of six newborns in a hotel in the capital on Saturday (June 6).
Shishir Monir said that since 1997, 3 lakh 3 thousand 829 children have been born in Ad-Deen Hospital. In a long period of more than 300,000 births, such an incident has not happened before.
He said, “The hospital provides medical services at 50 to 70 percent less cost than other institutions and has given free treatment to about one million people.”
He claimed, “The notice issued to cancel the license of the hospital due to a mistake is not legal. The hospital authorities will take necessary legal action in this regard.”
In the press conference, he said that the two nurses concerned have been temporarily suspended as evidence of professional negligence has been found in the preliminary investigation. However, the hospital authorities and the affected families demanded that those responsible for the incident be punished.
Shishir Monir said, “Both the victim's family and the hospital do not want the institution to be closed down. But action should be taken against those whose negligence caused this accident and effective measures should be taken to prevent such incidents in the future.”
He promised to stand by the families of the killed newborns and said that the affected family members will get medical services free of cost except medicines. Besides, suitable students of the family will get special scholarship opportunities in Ad-Deen educational institutions and eligible members will get job preference in various institutions of the institution.”
He also assured to give respectable compensation to the affected families.
Expressing grief over the attack on journalists at the press conference, Shishir Monir said, “Such behavior is not acceptable in any way. Action will be taken against those responsible after reviewing the CCTV footage.”
Ad-Deen Medical College Hospital Governing Body President Professor Abdur Sabur Khan also expressed regret over the attack on journalists. He said that disciplinary action has been taken against the two persons involved in the incident.
Habibur Rahman, the father of one of the newborns who died, said, “The previous two children were also born in the same hospital and they went there again as they were satisfied with the service.”
He urged the hospital to correct the errors and resume the services.
In the early morning of May 27, six newborns died within three hours at Ad-Deen Medical College Hospital. Later, in the report of the investigation committee formed by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, there was evidence of negligence in the case of child death.
