The biennial elections of the Bangladesh Film Artists Association for the term 2026-28 are scheduled to be held on July 3. Around the elections, the potential candidates are already busy in organizing the panel. In the meantime, the well-known fight director, actor, producer and director Armaan has announced his candidacy for the post of president. On the other hand, the popular actress Rumana Islam Mukti is with him as general secretary.
Armaan's candidature for the post of president was finalized after actor Bapparaj withdrew from the election citing personal and family reasons. Both Armaan and Mukti confirmed this.
Armaan has performed important duties in various tenures of Film Artists Association. Finally, he served as the Acting General Secretary of the organization. However, this is the first time he is participating in the election for the post of president.
Explaining the reason for participating in the election, Arman said, “I have decided to run for the post of president with the encouragement and support of senior and junior artists. I believe that I will get the same support as the artists have given me the trust in the past. We have several plans around the artists' association. If elected, I will try to implement them for the welfare of the artists.”
On the other hand, Rumana Islam Mukti said about being a candidate for the post of general secretary, “Due to personal and family engagements, Bappa Bhai is unable to participate in the election this time. Arman uncle has become a candidate for the post of president due to the interest of artists. We have formed a strong panel consisting of talented and experienced artists.”
Mukti also said, “I have decided to elect the post of general secretary based on my mother's dream, artists' requests and long-term organizational experience. We believe in action rather than words. If elected, we will work with utmost sincerity to solve the problems and welfare of artists.”
It is to be noted that earlier Bapparaj had announced the election for the post of president. He also informed about forming a panel with Rumana Islam Mukti. However, this popular actor withdrew from the election citing personal and family reasons at the last moment.
Meanwhile, film producer and director Kamal Md. will serve as the Chief Election Commissioner for the upcoming elections. Kibria Lipu. National film award-winning filmmaker Chhatku Ahmed will serve as the head of the appeal board.
