Minister of State for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Anindya Islam Amit urged the UAE to provide all kinds of cooperation in the energy sector.
At the same time, he sought investment and technical assistance from the Emirates in converting fertilizer factories and heavy steel industries to green hydrogen.
The Minister of State made this call during a courtesy meeting with Abdullah Ali Al-Hamudi, Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates, at the Secretariat on Thursday (June 4). At this time, the ambassador assured Bangladesh of all kinds of cooperation in the energy sector.
State Minister Anindya Islam Amit said, “UAE has historically been one of the main and reliable sources of crude oil and petroleum product imports for Bangladesh.”
He said, “He reiterated to the ambassador the issue of 'Bangladesh First' policy framework to deal with the sudden shock or increase in the price of energy in the global market.”
During the meeting, the Minister of State apprised the Ambassador about expansion of LNG trade, avoidance of spot market volatility, modernization of power and energy grid, reduction of carbon emissions, assistance in setting up of automated sub-stations and fuel bunkering facilities near ports.
He said, “Just as the UAE is building a green hydrogen production hub, the government of Bangladesh seeks investment and technical assistance in converting fertilizer factories and heavy steel industries from natural gas to green hydrogen or green ammonia.”
Ambassador Abdullah Ali Alhamudi expressed his government's interest in the development and expansion of Bangladesh's power and energy sector and assured all kinds of cooperation. He expressed his determination to take the historic partnership of the two countries to new heights.
Energy Secretary Mohammad Saiful Islam, Electricity Secretary Mirana Mahrukh and UAE Embassy official Altap Hossain were present at this time.
