10 injured in clash between two groups of BNP over possession of Jhoot


In Gazipur's Sreepur upazila, there has been a clash between two groups of BNP over the control and dominance of jhoot business. At least 10 people were injured on both sides. Several vehicles were vandalized during the clash.

The clash started in front of Arbala Factory in Gararan area of ​​Sripur-Barmi Regional Road of Barmi Union of Sripur Upazila around 10 am on Friday (May 22).

According to the locals, for a long time there was a dispute between two groups of local BNP over the control of Jhoot and business in the area.

Eyewitnesses said that at one stage of the discussion in the morning, the leaders and activists of the two groups clashed. At this time, the chase and the throwing of bricks and bricks caused great tension. When the situation went out of control, traffic on the road was temporarily stopped and panic spread in the surrounding areas.

A few staff transport vehicles standing in front of the Arbala factory were allegedly vandalized during the clashes.

Jasim, a local driver, said that after leaving the car and going away for some time, he came back and found that the car's tires had been deflated. Later some persons attacked and vandalized the car.

Aktaruzzaman Shamim Mollah, member secretary of the convening committee of Barmi Union BNP, alleged that during the discussions with the party leaders and activists regarding the possible visit of BNP acting chairman Tarek Rahman to Sreepur, the opponents attacked. At least four people including Junaid Mollah, convenor member of Upazila Youth Dal were injured.

Denying the allegations, BNP leader Masum Ahmed said that he is involved in the bus business. A smear campaign is being launched against him based on previous disputes.

He claimed that his three buses were attacked and vandalized on Friday morning.

Sripur Upazila Health Complex sources said that 10 injured people have been taken to the hospital. Some of them have been given first aid.

On receiving the information, Sreepur Thana police reached the spot and brought the situation under control. Currently, additional police are deployed in the area.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sreepur Police Station Shahinur Alam said, “There has been a clash between two groups over counterfeiting. The situation is currently under control. Necessary legal action will be taken subject to investigation after receiving a written complaint.”
