Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has stopped the attempt of Indian Border Guard Force to set up a BSF pole on the Zero Line at the Kalsirmukh border of Kuchlibari Union of Patgram Upazila of Lalmonirhat in violation of international border law.
In the face of BGB's strong objection and strict stance, BSF was finally forced to remove the illegally installed poles. This information has been informed in a circular sent from Rangpur Battalion (51 BGB) of BGB on Friday (May 22) evening.
According to the notification, last Thursday evening, a team of BSF violated the international border law and illegally set up poles on the zero line in the Kalsirmukh border area of Kuchlibari Union under the jurisdiction of 51 BGB. As soon as the matter came to the attention of local residents and BGB, the members of Kalsirmukh BOP (Border Outpost) immediately went to the spot and raised strong objections. The BSF personnel were forced to stop their operations when the BGB demanded immediate removal of the poles, calling for compliance with international border laws. Later they removed the poles placed on the zero line.
Rangpur Battalion (51 BGB) Commander Lt. Col. Najiur Rahman said, “BSF tried to set up poles in the border area in violation of international border law. BGB immediately took a firm stand after learning about the matter. Due to our strong protest, BSF was forced to stop their illegal activities.”
He also said, “Currently, the BGB is in the highest alert position along with the local people in that border area.”
