A meeting on Dhaka-Narayanganj-Demra (DND) dam was held under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Tariq Rahman.
The meeting was held at the Prime Minister's Office in the Cabinet Division of the Bangladesh Secretariat on Wednesday (June 3) afternoon.
Prime Minister's Deputy Press Secretary. Sujauddaulla (Sujan Mahmud) said this.
He said, “The long-term waterlogging problem of the Dhaka-Narayanganj-Demra dam area and ways to overcome it were discussed in detail at the meeting.”
After the meeting, Water Resources Minister Shahiduddin Chowdhury Annie said, “The long-standing waterlogging problem in the DND dam area still remains to a large extent. A related project was undertaken in 2016, which will be completed in 2024. But unfortunately, the benefits of the project have not been shared by the common people so far.”
He also said that the project completed by the Ministry of Water Resources will be handed over to the City Corporation within the next two weeks.
Annie said, “New plans are being taken for further development of drainage system in DND area. The issue of improving 30 km of new drainage system across the area has also been brought to the attention of the Prime Minister.”
He expressed optimism, “under the management of the City Corporation and the collective efforts of all, the desired results will be obtained this time.”
In addition to the Minister of Water Resources, State Minister Farhad Hossain Azad, State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperative Mir Shahe Alam, Administrator of Dhaka South City Corporation Abdus Salam and Rajuk Chairman Engineer Md. Riazul Islam was present.
