Howladar Shamim Ahmed planted flower saplings in the entire village after the three flower trees carefully planted near the grandmother's grave were stolen. After the theft, instead of showing anger, he took this initiative to instill remorse in the heart of the thief. Shamim is a resident of Purbshyampur village of Sadarpur upazila of Faridpur.
According to family sources, Shamim's grandmother died on March 18, 2024. A few months ago, Shamim planted Hasnahena, Kamini and Shiuli flowers next to Dadi's grave as a hobby. With regular care and attention the plants were growing and recently one plant flowered. But Shamim went to the cemetery the morning after the flowers bloomed and saw that the three trees along with the flowers had been stolen by someone.
Shamim is naturally saddened by the loss of the memorial tree of his grandmother's grave. But instead of being angry with the thief, he sees the matter positively. According to Shamim, the person who stole the trees must have loved flowers. And from this thought, I decided to spread the fragrance of flowers not only in the courtyard of my house, but throughout the village.
As thought so act. Shamim planted a total of 1500 Hasnahena, Kamini and Shiuli flower trees in front of 500 houses on both sides of the two kilometer road of East Shyampur village by hiring laborers with his own funds.
On Wednesday (June 3), it can be seen on the ground that Shamim is planting trees from house to house. Not only that, he requests the residents of the house to take care of the trees regularly. The residents are very happy with this innovative initiative of Shamim.
Local resident Tanveer Tuhin and some others said that such a beautiful initiative for the whole village from personal loss is really commendable. Such a positive solution to a negative event is rarely seen in society. This exceptional initiative will be an inspiration to others. Villagers hope that after a few months when the trees bloom, the entire village will be filled with fragrance and beauty.
Shamim Ahmed said, “I did not try to find the thief. Rather, I have made arrangements so that the entire village has flowers. Through this program, my planted trees may have reached the thief's house. When he sees that the tree for which he stole is now at his own door, then if he repents and does not do such things again in future, then my pain will be worth it.''
The aim is not only to teach the thief, but to fill the whole area with flowers. Shamim said that there is a plan to plant flowers and medicinal plants in every village of Sadarpur Upazila.
