BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir commented that BNP will move forward along the path shown by Ziaur Rahman.
He made this comment in a statement given on the occasion of the 45th martyrdom anniversary of party founder Ziaur Rahman on Saturday (May 30).
Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said, “The BNP coalition government under the leadership of Tariq Rahman is determined to ensure accountability to the people, transparency in every field, and all civil rights including absolute tolerance. The democratic institutions of the state must be strengthened to make democracy stable and permanent.”
“In all the crises, struggles and reconstruction of the national life, we should move forward keeping the path and ideals shown by Shaheed Zia and build a steel-solid mass unity for the protection of national interest, multi-dimensional democracy and people's rights”, he added.
Ziaur Rahman's illustrious career, the BNP Secretary General said, “The ideals, patriotism, honesty and dedication of the brave freedom fighter of the battlefield, the fearless statesman Shahid Zia are the source of inspiration for the nationalist forces today. The popularity of this great nationalist leader could never be accepted by the domestic and foreign conspiratorial forces. Ever since assuming power, the anti-nationalist circle started making plans against him. This The conspirators brutally killed President Ziaur Rahman at Circuit House in Chittagong on May 30, 1981. The nation lost a great patriot in this tragic assassination.”
He said, “No matter how much the conspirators try, even if a momentary statesman is removed from the world, he is not forgotten but remains forever awake in the hearts of the people of his country. His wife, late national leader Begum Khaleda Zia Shaheed Ziaur Rahman, with her uncompromising distance, took the path shown by the multi-party democracy, the country's development, and countered the forces of democracy and anti-patriotism. A pure patriotic martyr. Ziaur Rahman could never be swayed from his beliefs. He kept his ideals in his chest and continued to build a modern state.”
Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said, “Awami fascism held power for 17 years by creating fear and panic in the public mind. The power of the people was taken away and imprisoned in the prison of fascism. Disappearance, murder, torture and oppression were the only tools to survive in the power of the fallen fascism. The defeated Awami fascist ruling group established a looting mafia economy by smuggling the country's resources abroad.”
“In this situation, all democracy-loving people including students, workers and masses united to restore the stolen democracy and brought down Sheikh Hasina on August 5, 2024.
