A flag meeting was organized with the BSF on Thursday (June 4) in two stages on the initiative of the BGB in the case of the attempt to push 28 people through the Bangabari border of Chapainawabganj. Due to BSF's adamant position, women and children who are victims of Pusheen are still staying under the open sky.
At the flag meeting held at Bangabari border, the BSF assured the BGB that they would resolve the issue after discussions with their higher authorities. This information was given by Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad Ariful Islam, the commander of 16 battalion of BGB.
Abdur Rahman, a resident of the border area, said, “We have been seeing these people in the border area since Thursday morning. After the sun all day, when the heavy rain started in the afternoon, small children and women were looking for shelter. They do not have anything like plastic or shelter in the open field.”
Maryam Begum, another resident, said, “The BSF is pushing people towards our country and keeping them at zero line. Small children are crying because of hunger. They need to be dealt with quickly, otherwise they will get sicker.”
Acting Chairman of Bangabari Union Parishad (UP) Sharikul Islam Saddam Hossain said that he was informed about the matter by the BGB early in the morning and the local public representatives are constantly monitoring the border situation. BGB has made it clear that under no circumstances will anyone be allowed to enter the territory of Bangladesh illegally.
Meanwhile, after the flag meeting, BGB 16 battalion commander Lt. Col. Mohammad Ariful Islam Masum told reporters, “Last Wednesday night, BSF members tried to push those 28 people. The attempt failed in the face of BGB obstacles. Among those 28 people, there are 12 men, 10 women and 6 children. They are staying in the no-man's land (zero line) of the border.”
He said, “It is easy to push through some areas of the Bangabari border, the BSF is trying to exploit that opportunity. Meanwhile, the BGB is also on alert on the border. BGB patrols and other surveillance have been increased on the border.”
