A farmer named Hazrat Ali was killed by lightning while harvesting paddy in the field of Khoksa in Kushtia. Three people, including a schoolgirl, were injured.
The incident took place in Jayanti Hazra village of Jayanti Hazra Union of the upazila around Monday (May 18) evening.
The deceased Hazrat Ali is the son of the deceased Akkel Ali of the same village.
The injured are Antara (10), a class four student of Kalishankpur, Shimulia Union, Dolly Khatun (20), wife of Anis Molla, a housewife of Biljani village, and Soma Parveen (25), wife of Rubel Hossain, a housewife of Hualdbaria village on the border of Khoksar Pangsha. They have been admitted to Khoksa Upazila Health Complex.
Hazrat Ali's nephew Bappi said that Hazrat Ali saw the clouds in the afternoon and went to collect the cut paddy in the field. At that time, when there was lightning with rain, his uncle was unconscious in the field. Later he was rescued and taken to the health complex. The doctor there declared Hazrat Ali dead.
Jayanti Hazra Union Parishad (UP) Chairman Saqib Khan Tipu said that farmer Hazrat Ali died in the night due to lightning.
