Jamaat-e-Islami has held a protest march in Khulna metropolis as part of the program announced by the central government against the increase in the price of fuel oil and electricity in the country.
Today, Thursday (June 4) afternoon, they protested in Khulna metropolis on the initiative of Jamaat-e-Islami. Earlier, a rally was held at Dakbanglo Sonali Bank premises. It was chaired by Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami central working council member and Khulna Metropolitan Amir Mohammad Mahfuzur Rahman.
Shura member and Khulna District Secretary Munshi Mizanur Rahman, Khulna Metropolitan Assistant Secretary Principal Sheikh Jahangir Alam and Azizul Islam Faraji, Office Secretary Mim Miraj Hossain, Khulna Metropolitan President of Bangladesh Islami Chhatrashibir Rakib Hasan and others spoke in the Central Majlis under the direction of Metropolitan Jamaat Assistant Secretary Shah Alam.
Khulna Metropolitan Ameer Mohammad Mahfuzur Rahman said, “Unlimited corruption in the power sector, wastage and capacity charges of quick rental power plants are repeatedly being imposed on the people to pay the loss of thousands of crores of loot. Such an inhumane decision would not have been possible if the government had responsibility towards the people.''
He urged to stop all corruption, wastage and looting in the country's electricity sector and give priority to public support. He strongly demanded the immediate withdrawal of the anti-people and unreasonable electricity price hike considering the extreme suffering of the people.
Other speakers at the rally said that the backs of the middle class and low income people have been pushed against the wall due to the rise in the prices of daily necessities, and this increase in the price of electricity will come as a 'slap on the back'. With the rise in electricity prices, the country's industrial and agricultural production costs will increase massively. There will be stagnation in factories, trade and agriculture sectors. The prices of all the daily necessities including rice, pulses, oil will increase. It will make the life of common people miserable.
At the end of the rally, a protest procession circumambulated the main thoroughfares of the city ending with a short rally at Shibbari Junction. At that time, he raised slogans with various demands in protest against the price of fuel oil and electricity and raised various slogans in favor of the referendum and against the government's position.
