Martyred President Ziaur Rahman is the guardian of freedom and sovereignty of the country: Home Minister


Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmad said, “Martyr President Ziaur Rahman has played a unique role as a guardian of the freedom, sovereignty and progress of Bangladesh.”

He said this while briefing the journalists present after visiting the shrine and laying wreaths on the occasion of the martyrdom anniversary of martyred President Ziaur Rahman Bir Uttam, the promulgator of great freedom, advocate of multi-party democracy, in Sherbangla Nagar of the capital on Saturday (May 30).

The Home Minister said, “Inspired by the ideals of martyred President Ziaur Rahman, everyone should work unitedly to build a non-discrimination, democratic and prosperous Bangladesh according to the main desire of the student-mass uprising of August 5, 2024.”

The minister said, “Today is a very sad and memorable day for the BNP and the entire people of this country. He was martyred while defending the country's independence and sovereignty, which was his historic rise through the declaration of great independence in 1971.”

He said, “The main address of freedom, sovereignty and democracy of Bangladesh is the path shown by martyred President Ziaur Rahman and Begum Khaleda Zia. We have turned this deep grief into strength.”

He also said, “Martyr President Ziaur Rahman has taught us how to move forward on the path of national prosperity by creating steel-solid unity among all people. We do politics based on the ideals of multi-party democracy based on his established Bangladesh Nationalist Party and Bangladeshi nationalism.”

Reiterating the current democratic government's commitment to democracy, the Home Minister said, “As long as Bangladesh exists, this country will be run in a fully democratic manner. In the light of the spirit of the August 5 uprising, the foundation of the country's democracy will be strengthened and strengthened.”

Home Minister called late Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia as 'Mother of Democracy'. Besides, he reverently remembered Begum Zia's endless sacrifice and struggle to protect the country's democracy.

He said, “Begum Khaleda Zia has fought and sacrificed the most for the democracy of this country. We have come here to pray for the forgiveness of the souls of the martyred President Ziaur Rahman and National Leader Begum Khaleda Zia and prayed for the overall welfare of the country and are inspired to serve the country and the people.”
