After the election of Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), Tamim Iqbal has expressed his commitment to take Bangladesh cricket forward by taking responsibility as the new president. He said that the main responsibility of the board will be to work in the interest of Bangladesh cricket and not personal identity.
In the post-election press conference, Tamim said that in the last one and a half to two years, Bangladesh cricket had to face various negative situations. He hoped that the new board would work together to overcome the situation and bring cricket back to a positive direction.
He said, if 25 directors can work with the same goal, then that will be the biggest strength of Bangladesh cricket. Our main responsibility is to serve and advance Bangladesh cricket.
Tamim said that due respect will be given to all the participants involved in Bangladesh cricket including current and former cricketers. Admitting that there were some deficiencies in this area in the past, he said, the new board will work to correct those issues.
Addressing the media, he said, if there is a mistake, they should criticize, because that is their right. However, at the same time, he urged everyone to cooperate in rebuilding the international image of Bangladesh cricket.
After the directors were elected, Tamim was elected as the president and Fahim Sinha as the vice-president. The constitution mentions two vice-presidents. Explaining the reason for electing a vice-president, Tamim said it was on his proposal. The board has decided to go ahead with one vice-president for the time being as there have been instances of misunderstandings and internal conflicts due to multiple vice-presidents in the past. He said that a second vice-president may be appointed if necessary in the future.
When asked about the various criticisms surrounding the board election and the tag 'Baper Doaya', Tamim said, these are personal opinions. In response, he said briefly, “Let's see if I can pray for cricket from my father's prayer.”
Soon after assuming office, Tamim told about the big dream of building high performance center. Talking about his future plans, Tamim said that his biggest dream is to build a modern high performance (HP) center to develop the country's cricket infrastructure.
He said that the work of reviewing the design of this project proposed earlier has started. For this, the cooperation of the government is required and preliminary discussions have already been held in this regard.
Asked how free and free the election was, Tamim said that there was fierce competition, especially in his category. The result was decided by a margin of one vote, which highlights the competitive nature of the election.
He said that no panel has been announced deliberately so that all candidates get equal opportunity. According to him, the entire election process was completed beautifully and smoothly.
As the newly elected president, Tamim Iqbal expressed optimism that it will be possible to take Bangladesh cricket to new heights in the next four years with the combined efforts of the board, cricketers, media and all concerned.
