Eid-ul-Azha on Thursday. Homebound people to enjoy the festival with family. People have to suffer due to severe traffic jam in Gazipur on Tuesday night. Meanwhile, the rain that started on Wednesday morning (May 27) has added to their misery.
On Tuesday afternoon, two highways in Gazipur were flooded with people, which only caused traffic jams. Even though the vehicles were moving at a slow speed, the passengers were stuck in a long traffic jam on the Dhaka-Tangail highway for 30 kilometers at night. You have to wait for hours to cover a few kilometers. Meanwhile, there is a transportation crisis.
Talking to the passengers, it is known that it took 10 hours to cover 10 km on Chandra East side of Dhaka-Tangail highway. At various places during the night, traffic was at a standstill for several hours.
On Wednesday morning, the situation started to become somewhat normal, but suddenly it started raining. Around 7:30 in the morning, due to heavy rains, they suffered a lot on the highway. Hundreds of passengers are still waiting for transport in some areas including Chandra, Safipur, Palli Vidyut. Many are returning home in rain-soaked trucks and pickup vans.
A passenger named Ali Hasan said, “It takes an hour to reach Chandra Trimor from Chaurasta, but I left on Tuesday night and reached early Wednesday morning.” The traffic jam has increased due to rain. Those who go by bus are still fine, but those who return home by truck are worse.”
A passenger named Setara Khatun said, “The 10-day Eid holiday will end in two days on the road. I thought the suffering would be less, but this time there are more problems. Even if you get a good car, you can sit in the car. I went out on Tuesday afternoon and returned home. I went out in the morning but there was rain and car shortage.”
Naojor Highway Officer-in-Charge (OC) Sawgatul Alam said, “Due to the rain, the suffering of the people going home has increased. We hope that the road situation will be normal by noon today.”
