Removal of animal stall from under metro station in Uttara, police warning to lessee

This year, the capital's biggest sacrificial animal market is located in Uttara's Diabari. Due to the large number of animals in the market, the vendors tied them up under the main roads and metro stations beyond the prescribed limits. This creates severe traffic jam in the concerned area and disrupts the movement of common people.

In such a situation, Uttara Division of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has taken a strict stand to restore order in Diabari animal market. In the case of illegal tethering of animals on the road below the metro rail station, an immediate operation was conducted to remove them. Traffic has been normalized in the area due to this police action. At the same time, the tenant of the hut was called to the spot and warned.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DC) NM Nasiruddin of DMP's Media and Public Relations Department gave this information in a press release sent to the media on Tuesday (May 26) evening.

He said that the Diabari Cattle Hut has accumulated extensively as the biggest and the highest rental price animal hut under the jurisdiction of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC). A large number of sacrificial animals were brought from different parts of the country by truck and by sea. Especially large-sized cows are attracting a lot of buyers.

He said, “However, traffic congestion was being caused due to keeping animals outside the designated boundaries of the hut under the main road and metro rail station. In this situation, DMP Uttara division took quick steps to clear the road encroachment. By removing the animals from under the metro rail station, traffic flow was normalized on alternate routes.”

He said, “The tenant of the market has been called to the spot and warned. Setting up markets or keeping animals on the road is completely prohibited.”

It is also informed that if the order is disobeyed, the mobile court will be conducted and fined.
