Three people died due to lightning in Habiganj

Three people, including a woman, were killed by lightning in three upazilas of Habiganj. Three people were injured. On Sunday (June 7) afternoon and evening, there were casualties due to lightning in Shaistaganj, Chunarughat and Baniachong upazilas of the district.

Habiganj Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Zahid Hossain and Shaestaganj Police Station OC Md. Abul Kalam confirmed the death.

The deceased are Rahela Begum (45), wife of Altaf Ali of Kazirgaon village of Shaestaganj municipality, Rinku Debnath (30) son of Suresh Debnath of Mirpur Chakfazil village of Bahubal upazila and Sujan Mia (16) son of Jaidar Ali of Srimangalkandi village of Baniachong upazila.

According to police and local sources, Rahela Begum was working near the house in Kazirgaon village of Shaistaganj on Sunday evening. At that time he died due to lightning.

On the other hand, Rinku Debnath came to Chunarughat to visit his sister's house. In the afternoon, he along with his nephew Piyush Debnath was cleaning the water tank on the roof of a house. When lightning accompanied the rain, both of them fell from the roof and were seriously injured. Relatives rescued them and took them to Chunarughat Upazila Health Complex, where doctors declared Rinku Debnath dead. The injured Piyush Debnath is undergoing treatment.

Meanwhile, at the same time, four youths were injured by lightning in Srimangalkandi village of Baniachong upazila. Later, when they were taken to Habiganj Sadar Modern Hospital, the doctor on duty declared Sujan Mia dead. Injured Siam Miah, Hafiz Uddin and Parvez Miah are undergoing treatment at the hospital.
