3 killed by covered van on Jessore-Khulna highway

A speeding covered van hit a van and an easybike on the Jessore-Khulna highway. Three people including a woman were killed in this incident. Police arrested the driver of the killer vehicle.

The incident took place in front of Chaulia Oil Pump in Jessore Sadar Upazila around 11:30 am on Saturday (May 23).

The deceased are – Rishti Saha (24), wife of Sujan Saha of Ghoragacha Sahapara area, Anor Ali (70), son of deceased Kalu Sheikh of Chaulia area and Mohammad Ayub Ali (43), son of deceased Hasan Ali Molla of Ghuni Purwapara area, easy bike driver.

Eyewitnesses said that a covered van going from Khulna to Jessore lost control and hit a van first. A few people were seriously injured when they later hit an easybike in front of them. Three died on the way to the hospital. In this incident, a four-year-old child and Sajjad Hossain (28) of Mohanpur area of ​​Monirampur upazila were seriously injured. They are currently undergoing treatment at Jessore General Hospital.

Meanwhile, after the accident, angry mobs protested and vandalized the highway. Later, the police reached the spot and brought the situation under control.

Jessore Kotyali police station officer in charge (OC) Masum Khan said that the driver of the killer vehicle involved in the accident has been arrested. The actual cause of the accident is under investigation. Legal action is pending.
