Four more children died in last 24 hours due to measles symptoms in Sylhet. At the same time, 43 new children were admitted to the hospital.
The four children died on Friday (May 22) while undergoing treatment in the ICU of Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital and Shaheed Shamsuddin Ahmad Hospital. With this, a total of 51 children died of measles and its symptoms in Sylhet division this year. At present 295 suspected measles patients are under treatment in various hospitals in the department.
According to the information of the health department, among those who died are 1 year and 3 months old from Shahparan area of ​​Sylhet, 6 months and 27 days old from Kalaruka village of Chatak upazila of Sunamganj, 5 months and 17 days old from Durganagar of Moulvibazar and 6 months and 10 days old from Dirai upazila of Sunamganj.
According to Sylhet Divisional Health Office sources, since January 1 this year, the number of measles patients confirmed in lab tests has reached 158. Out of this maximum 84 people were detected in Sunamganj, 42 people in Sylhet, 16 people in Moulvibazar and 16 people in Habiganj (out of which 2 people were infected with rubella).
At present, 295 patients with suspected measles symptoms are admitted in various government hospitals and upazila health complexes of the division. Among them, 89 people are under treatment at Sylhet Shaheed Shamsuddin Ahmad Hospital, 58 people at Osmani Medical College Hospital and 55 people at Sunamganj District Sadar Hospital. Apart from this, many are taking treatment in other government and private hospitals.
According to health department statistics, a total of 47 people have died with suspected measles symptoms so far this year and 4 have died of lab-confirmed measles. In all, the total death toll stands at 51.
