2 buses collide in Cox's Bazar, 2 killed


Two people, including a child, were killed in a head-on collision between two passenger buses in Medha Kachpiya area of ​​Khutakhali Union of Chakaria Upazila of Cox's Bazar. At least 20 passengers, including a woman, were injured in the incident.

The accident took place on Monday (June 8) afternoon in the hilly slope and dangerous bend of Medha Kachpiya area of ​​Chittagong-Cox's Bazar highway. The deceased were identified as bus driver Mohammad Ali and a child named Mohammad Yahya. Their detailed identities were not immediately known.

Malumghat Highway Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mahbubur Rahman confirmed the matter.

According to the eyewitnesses, around 3 pm, a long-distance Evergreen Paribahan bus from Cox's Bazar to Chittagong collided head-on with a Salam Paribahan passenger bus coming from the opposite direction. Due to the intensity of the collision, the front parts of the two buses were twisted. Local bus driver Mohammad Ali and a child were killed on the spot in the accident. At least 20 passengers of the two buses were injured. Due to the collision, a part of the roof of the local bus was detached and fell on the side of the road.

The OC also said that local residents, fire service and highway police members reached the spot and conducted a rescue operation after receiving the information. Later the injured were rescued and admitted to Chakaria Upazila Health Complex and Malumghat Memorial Christian Hospital. Some of the injured are in critical condition.

Malumghat Highway Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mahbubur Rahman said that after receiving information about the accident, the police went to the spot and brought the situation under control and seized the two buses involved in the accident. It is initially believed that the accident happened due to excessive speed on hill slopes and dangerous curves. The matter will be investigated and necessary legal action will be taken.

Traffic on the highway was disrupted for some time due to the accident, but the situation was normalized by the police later.
