In the current fiscal year 2025-26, from July 1, 2025 to June 3, 2026, the government has collected and stored a total of 33 lakh 27 thousand 959 tons of food grains (rice and wheat), said the State Minister for Food. Abdul Bari.
He gave this information in response to a written question in the National Parliament on Monday (June 8). Deputy Speaker Barrister Kaiser Kamal presided over the session.
The state minister said, “The government collects paddy directly from farmers and rice from rice mill owners on contract basis. During this period, 2 lakh 39 thousand 439 tons of paddy has been collected from farmers and 18 lakh 58 thousand 170 tons of rice from rice mill owners.”
He said that 5 lakh 12 thousand 879 tons of rice and 7 lakh 17 thousand 471 tons of wheat were imported from foreign sources, which helped to strengthen the food stock of the country.
The state minister mentioned that the government's food procurement program is playing an important role in ensuring the country's food security as well as keeping the market stable.
