Sammilit Islami Bank new chairman Shairul, MD Abedur


The government has appointed the new chairman and managing director of Sammilit Islami Bank.

On Monday (June 8), the Financial Institutions Department of the Ministry of Finance informed about this appointment in a separate letter.

Kazi Shairul Hasan, Managing Director (MD) of Saudi-Bangladesh Industrial and Agricultural Investment Company (SABINCO), a multinational financial institution, has been made the new chairman.

And the managing director of the bank is Abedur Rahman, who took over the duties of the deputy managing director of the Dutch-Bangla Bank.

Bangladesh Bank Spokesperson Executive Director Arif Hossain Khan told reporters that Bangladesh Bank has approved the government's decision to appoint Kazi Shairul as the chairman.

He said that the meeting of the Board of Directors of Sammilit Islami Bank will be held on Wednesday. On that day the appointment of the managing director of the bank will be approved.

An official of the Financial Institutions Department of the Ministry of Finance told reporters that they have been appointed. However, Bangladesh Bank will need no objection before joining them.

The Shariah-based private Exim Bank, First Security Islami Bank, Global Islami Bank, Union Bank and Social Islami Bank, which were in distress due to financial crisis, were formed during the previous interim government.

On December 1, 2025, the regulatory body Bangladesh Bank issued the final license in the name of Sammilit Islami Bank. The chairman of the new bank was given the responsibility of the former secretary Mohammad Ayub Miah.

But after finalizing the appointment of one as managing director, he refused to join.
