One ton 'Emperor' in mountain talks


Seth Agro Farm in Matiranga Upazila of Khagrachari. There are various breeds of cows including Friesians. The special attraction of this farm is the Friesian bull 'Samrat'. It weighs 1000 kg. The emperor is prepared to take the sacrificial animal to market.

The cow has come into discussion because of its dark black color, white markings under the head and body, smooth structure and monstrous shape.

According to the farm authorities, the current weight of the emperor is about 1 thousand kg or more than one ton. The owner is asking for the price of the cow 12 lakhs.

Supervisor of the farm. Wali Ullah Babu said, from the beginning, the emperor was brought up separately in special care. The cow is raised on a completely natural diet without any harmful drugs or chemicals. Every day food and care costs more than a thousand rupees.

Sixty are fed raw grass, hay, husks, corn, cabbage, sweet pumpkin, rice husk and rice paddy every day. Besides, morning-afternoon bath, regular health check-up and clean environment are ensured.

Not only the emperor, 17 bulls, 3 buffaloes, 3 mountain goats and a few garals have been prepared for sacrifice this year in the farm. The farm currently has seven employees looking after the animals day and night.

Shahid Hossain, manager of the farm, said that there are various breeds of cows including Friesian, Shahiwal, Brahma-Shahiwal cross. Several cows weigh between 800 and 900 kg. But the emperor caught everyone's attention. He sells cows from the farm. But their main sales center is Kazi Deuri in Chittagong.

Matiranga Upazila Livestock Officer Dr. Somen Chakma said that the characteristic of mountain cow is that the meat is low in fat. Raw grass and dry hay are the main food for cows here. No chemicals are used in the cattle feed of this region. So the beef here is 100% safe.

Khagrachari Livestock Department said that there will be a surplus of more than 5,000 animals to meet the demand of sacrificial animals in the district this year. According to livestock officials, the quality of beef here is very good due to natural rearing in the hilly areas. Therefore, traders from different districts of the country rushed to buy cows in advance.
