Brick-and-stone mechanical Dhaka is now much noise-free and quiet during the Eid holidays. However, the open green spaces of the capital have become lively in the mood of the festival. Many families have come to share the joy of Eid in front of Zia Udyan and Sangsad Bhavan in the capital.
On Saturday (May 30) afternoon, a crowd of visitors was seen in front of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhawan and Zia Udyan in the capital.
The large square surrounded by green grass, the cool breeze of the lake and the shade of row trees in Zia Udyan has seen the presence of middle and lower-middle class families. Some have come with family, some have come with children to enjoy nature. The sight of small children running, playing ball and blowing balloons in this huge square created a festive atmosphere throughout the park. Apart from sitting on the banks of the lake and telling stories, the visitors are capturing the memorable moments by framing them with mobile phones and cameras in the pleasant environment.
Housewife Akalima Akter brought her family from across Buriganga. She told TimesBD, “On Eid day, I spent the day doing housework and taking care of guests. Yesterday, the guests came again. So today I took some time with my husband and took my son and daughter for a walk. In Dhaka, there is an open space or park where children can play. They are very happy to see so much green and open sky here. They are playing on the grass and with balls, and we took several pictures together as husband and wife. To be honest, this is the joy of children.” The real happiness of our Eid.”
Lamia Akhter Liza, a private employee, was smoking fuchka with her family at a mobile fuchka shop in front of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhawan. He told TimesBD, “You don't go out for a walk like this without a break. I went out with my family today. First I visited Ramana Park and Suhrawardy Udyan and now I'm going to visit Sangsad Bhavan and Zia Udyan. I'm having a good time.”
The government employee came to visit Zia Udyan from Demra with his family. Azizul Haque He told TimesBD, “I didn't go to the village this time on Eid vacation. I came here with my family after noon. I brought some light snacks and sheets from home, and we all sat on the grass and chatted. The air of the lake is very nice. Compared to the high price of rides in big famous theme parks, this park is a great place for ordinary families. Seeing the noise of people around and the children playing made me feel good.”
Seasonal toys and a variety of food stalls sit inside and outside the park to attract the throngs of visitors. There were long queues of customers at chatpatti, fuchka, ice cream and jhalmuri shops. However, the visitors complain that the prices of food and plastic toys in the shops inside are being kept a bit higher by capitalizing on the holiday. Apart from this, the activities of the members of the law and order forces have been seen in maintaining the overall security of the park and protecting the women and children arriving.
