In Shariatpur's Gosairhat upazila, the soil temperature has increased abnormally in an area covering about 50 feet. After digging the ground at the spot, smoke was seen coming out from inside. The mysterious incident has created curiosity and concern among the local residents.
From Friday (June 5) morning, the ground became unusually hot at a certain place of Gosairhat Upazila Health Complex. As the heat was felt upon touching the ground, the matter quickly spread among the locals and curious people started flocking to the spot.
A fire service team went to the spot on Saturday (June 6) afternoon to monitor the situation. Initially they tried to control the temperature by pouring water into holes in the ground. But till now there is no definite information about the source or cause of the heat.

The mysterious incident has caused concern among hospital officials and local residents. Those concerned have advised to take precautions around the incident site to avoid possible risks.
Gosairhat upazila health and family planning officer Dr. Hafizur Rahman Mia said, “We visited the spot after the matter first came to our notice. We have contacted the concerned administration, fire service and electricity department regarding the matter. Safety of patients and visitors is given utmost importance.
Gosairhat Rural Electricity DGM. Abdul Matin said that no evidence of electricity failure or leakage was found during the inspection of the scene. However, for the sake of security, the electricity connection in that area has been temporarily shut down.
Gosairhat Fire Service Officer ABM Basar said that even after repeatedly giving water to the hot spot, the temperature did not decrease. The matter is being monitored seriously as the heat is felt from below the ground. However, expert investigation is required to confirm the source of the heat.
In this regard, Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) Sheikh Nausad Hasan said, “There has been a discussion about taking the help of the relevant experts to find out the real cause of this mysterious incident.” The cause of the matter will be investigated through necessary tests.
