Professor ABM Obaidul Islam
Dhaka University (DU) Vice-Chancellor Professor ABM Obaidul Islam has visited Türkiye to participate in international discussions on creating a waste-free environment and tackling the challenges of climate change.
He left Dhaka for Turkey on Wednesday (June 3) morning. The Vice-Chancellor will participate in the forum held in Istanbul from June 5 to 7 at the invitation of the president of Turkey's Zero Waste Foundation.
Hundreds of ministers from different countries of the world, representatives of international organizations, academicians, representatives of the private sector and civil society leaders will participate in this forum. The event will serve as an effective discussion platform for policy makers to create a waste-free environment and face the challenges of climate change. Besides, the organizers hope that it will play an important role in increasing international cooperation in various sectors and exploring sustainable development strategies.
During the visit, Vice-Chancellor Professor ABM Obaidul Islam will participate in various sessions of the Forum and discuss various issues of bilateral interest with the officials of 'Zero Waste Foundation'.
Besides, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) is likely to be signed between Dhaka University and 'Zero Waste Forum' to ensure an inclusive environment, establish equality and increase sensitivity towards vulnerable populations.
The Vice-Chancellor is expected to return home on June 9. During his absence, Dhaka University Pro-Vice Chancellor (Education) Professor Abdus Salam will perform the routine duties of the Vice-Chancellor in addition to his duties.
