Tollygunge MLA, actress Papiya Adhikari led the Navajatra in Tollypara
After the victory of the BJP in the 2026 assembly elections, there has been a radical change in the politics of West Bengal. This wind is felt in the showbiz arena as well. The monopoly and power that Biswas Brothers had built up in Kolkata's Studiopara for more than a decade and a half, collapsed like a house of cards after political changes!
On Wednesday (June 3), 26 guilds under the old federation were disbanded. Instead, a new driving force emerged in Tollywood—the Eastern India Motion Pictures and Cine Cultural Confederation (EIMPCC).
Veteran actress Papiya Adhikari is the supreme leader of this new and powerful organization. His clear statement—”All will come under one roof. Leaving the old structure of the federation behind, the cine industry will move forward under a new identity. Named—'Eastern India Motion Pictures and Cine Cultural Confederation (EIMPCC)'. There will be no more 26 guilds. Very difficult. There will be three or four. I will do whatever it takes. Every week there will be discussions in the technician studio. Everyone will be dealt with.”
The Hindustan Times reported in a report that for the past few years, anger was building up in Studiopara over the old federation's undeclared 'bullying', occasional work stoppages, dictatorship and violence by pocket guilds on the technicians and workers of Tolipara. Allegedly, many directors, producers and independent technicians were enduring this torture with their mouths shut. Despite many legal battles or court bans, the familiar image has not changed. However, the whole scenario changed as soon as the wind of political change in the 20s started to blow. The abolition of 26 guilds has been announced, uprooting the old power forever. It is said that several well-known and experienced faces of Tolipara have joined the new core committee of Papia Adhikari.
The workers of Tolipara claim that the work environment in Studiopara will be much more transparent and free as a result of this mega overhaul or change. No one's livelihood can be taken away on the finger of a particular group or person.
The leader of the new confederation, actress Papiya Adhikari, has clearly stated that their main aim is to protect the rights of every worker in Tolipara, to create a healthy work environment without any political bias. This new body will ensure that no junior artists or technicians are exploited and producers are not subjected to unnecessary harassment or financial loss.
