In Feni, a businessman was kidnapped and robbed of a cow at gunpoint. The incident took place on Saturday (May 23) around 4 am in the area adjacent to Rampur RAB camp on the Dhaka-Chittagong highway.
According to the victim businessman and police sources, Delwar Hossain brought 10 cows five days ago and kept them in the area adjacent to the Rampur RAB camp on the highway on the occasion of Eid al-Adha. Cows were tied up in a line by the road, a herdsman was tending the animals. The shepherd guards the cows till 3 am on Friday and goes to sleep. Then Delwar himself was guarding the cows.
Around 4 am today, four persons suddenly came with native weapons and sharp ramadas and threatened Delwar. At one point they cut the rope and took it to a bullock cart. Hearing Delwar's screams, his brother came out of the house and chased him, but the accused escaped.
Delwar Hossain, the victim, said, “I bought 10 cows with a loan from people to sell on the occasion of Eidul Adha. I was guarding the cows by tying them in the area adjacent to the RAB camp. In the morning, suddenly four men took me hostage at gunpoint in a cow car. It was not possible to stop them even after the car was involved. I request the intervention of the administration to rescue the cow and identify the culprits and bring them to justice.”
Since the incident, panic has spread among other cattle traders staying there. They said that the incident of such robbery next to the camp of law and order forces is very worrying. They bought cows by investing a huge amount of money ahead of Eid. Now he is in extreme anxiety due to insecurity.
Several cattle traders complained that they do not feel safe even after guarding the cows throughout the night. They demand immediate arrest of those involved and strengthening of security in the animal market and surrounding areas.
Md. A seasonal cow trader named Salim said, “I brought 45 cows here for sale 12 days ago. We are keeping the cows here and running the business. Earlier in Feni, there were cases of looting of sacrificial cows by killing the traders and looting of cows from the farm by shooting the shepherd. This time too, such an incident happened at the beginning of the season. There is concern among the traders.”
Feni Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Gazi Muhammad Fauzul Azim said, “A police team has already been sent to the spot. We have also received a complaint from the victim businessman. The matter will be investigated and necessary action will be taken.”
