Doctor Mahbub Hasan Raihan has been arrested by the police in Sreepur Upazila of Gazipur for abducting a woman doctor and threatening to marry her. Based on the case filed by the victim, the accused doctor was sent to jail by the court.
On Saturday (June 6) afternoon, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sreepur Police Station Mohammad Shahinur Alam informed about the arrest.
According to the information of the case, resident of Durgapur (Teljuri) village of Boalmari upazila of Faridpur. Farhana Sharmin is working as a resident medical officer in a private diagnostic center in Sripur Municipal area. Mahbub Hasan Raihan, a doctor of the same institution, tried to get close to her and at one point proposed marriage. But Farhana rejected the proposal.
It is said in the complaint that Mahbub Hasan Raihan proposed to meet and drink tea for the last time after he decided to quit his job. Responding to that proposal on the evening of May 26, Farhana went to a tea shop in Satkhamair area. On the way back, some persons in a private car stopped his autorickshaw.
The victim claimed that he was then forced into a car after his face was clamped and a sharp weapon was held at his throat. At the same time, his mobile phone and gold ring were taken away. Later, he was blindfolded and taken to different secluded places, followed by detention and terror.
The affidavit further states that the kidnappers threatened to kill her and pressured her to agree to marry Mahbub Hasan Raihan by threatening to shoot offensive videos. It is alleged that at one point the marriage ceremony was conducted late at night in the presence of the Qazi in a secluded place.
According to the victim, her national identity card information was forcibly collected even though she did not consent to the marriage. Later, signatures and fingerprints were taken on a few blank stamps along with Kabinnama and photographs and videos of the entire incident were captured.
According to the complaint, he was dropped near Sreepur Upazila Health Complex in the early hours of the next day. Besides, he and his family members are threatened with harm if they reveal the incident.
The name of Mahbub Hasan Raihan has been mentioned as the main accused in the case. Besides, some of his associates and some unknown persons have been accused.
The investigating officer of the case, Sub-Inspector (SI) of Sripur Police Station, Mohammad Suruzzaman, said that after receiving the complaint, the case was registered on Friday and the main accused was arrested. Later he was sent to jail on the orders of the court.
He also said that based on the information provided by the arrested accused, three blank stamps with the victim's signature were recovered by raiding his house. All these signs have been seized and investigation is continuing.
The victim's doctor did not immediately agree to talk to the media about the incident. In a WhatsApp message, he said that injustice has been done to him and he has taken legal action in this regard. Currently, he did not want to comment on the matter as he is mentally disturbed and the case is pending.
