Childhood Eid means a different kind of joy, which is much faded in the rush of mechanical life. Today's popular actor Shamim Hasan Sarkar has recounted a thrilling memory of the joint family Eid, grandparent's gathering and Qurbani Eid in his childhood.
Reminiscing the memory of Eid al-Adha, Shamim Hasan Sarkar told RisingBD that at the end of the day, everyone is now used to a 'nuclear' or single family. Now everyone is not found together like before, everyone spends Eid al-Adha at their homes in Dhaka. As a result, he now misses the feeling of going to the country house and celebrating Eid together with everyone like the old days.
Shamim Hasan Sarkar said, “Korbani Eid was a joy when we were children. We all used to celebrate Eid together at Dadabari. From praying together to Qorbani, eating and drinking, chatting—those things have disappeared now.”
While turning the pages of Eid memories, Shamim also shared the exciting and scary experiences of his childhood. Then he studied in the third or fourth grade in Adamji School of Dhaka Cantonment. On the day of Eid, he wore red Punjabi. Recalling the incident of that day, the actor said, “A cow suddenly broke the rope before it was slaughtered. Maybe I was targeted because I was wearing a red Punjabi! I ran to save my life and entered the canteen of an army unit. I survived the service, but I was very scared. That was the only time in my life that I had a cow run.”
After becoming a star, the opportunity to go to the sacrificial animal market like ordinary people does not come quickly. However, Shamim Hasan Sarkar said that he has gone to the market three times so far. He also went at night to avoid the crowd. Everyone there is so busy with buying or taking care of their own animals that there is no need to fall into the irony of separation. However, he found a different kind of joy in this work of the market.
Shamim Hasan Sarkar laughed in response to the question whether he had to face any problem in the market. He said, “I went to the market and saw that the traders don't know me! They come from far and wide outside Dhaka, they don't have time to watch plays anymore. So nothing happened to recognize me and increase the price of cattle. It's really a different and great experience.”
