In Jamalpur's Dewanganj, two people died after being bitten by a buffalo. One person died last Sunday night at Dewanganj Upazila Health Complex and another died at Jamalpur General Hospital on Monday night.
Earlier, the incident took place at Sanandbari Korbani animal market in Char Amkhawa Union of the upazila on Sunday afternoon.
The deceased are Mojibur Rahman (55) of Char Madar village in Sanandbari area and Ruhul Amin (58) of Kadaidangipara village in Rajibpur upazila of Kurigram.
According to police and local sources, a person from Akandapara village of Dewanganj upazila came to Sanandbari market with some buffaloes for sale on Sunday. After being brought there, a buffalo suddenly started behaving abnormally. At one point, the buffalo runs around the market and punches people. At least six people including Ruhul Amin, Mojibur Rahman were injured. When they were taken to Upazila Health Complex in critical condition, Ruhul Amin died while undergoing treatment. Later, Mojibur Rahman was shifted to Jamalpur General Hospital. He died while undergoing treatment there.
OC of Dewanganj Model Police Station. Anwar Hossain said, “I have heard that two people have died in buffalo butt. However, no one has filed a written complaint with the police station. If a complaint is received, legal action will be taken after investigation.”
