Per capita income increased by 2 thousand 227 dollars – BD per day



In the fiscal year 2005-06, the per capita income of Bangladesh was 543 US dollars. Which has now increased to 2 thousand 227 US dollars. And the average life expectancy of people increased from 59 years in 2005-06 financial year to 72.6 years in 2019-20.

Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal gave this information in the budget speech of the fiscal year 2021-22 on Thursday.

Finance Minister said, Bangladesh is a changing country. We passed a golden age in the history of Bangladesh, which is appreciated all over the world. After Bangabandhu, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has brought Bangladesh to the highest level in history in all fields including economy and development, social policy, culture, law and order, foreign policy. The average GDP growth in the last 12 years was 6.6 percent, which was more than 7 percent in FY 2016-17, 2017-18 and 2018-19 and crossed 8 percent in FY 2018-19. Inflation was at a bearable level.

He also said that our per capita income was 543 US dollars in the fiscal year 2005-06, which has now increased to 2,227 US dollars. At that time the poverty rate was 41.5 percent, now the poverty rate has reduced to 20.5 percent. The size of GDP has increased from Tk 4 lakh 82 thousand 337 crore to Tk 28 lakh crore.

The amount of foreign exchange reserves was only 0.744 billion US dollars, that is, less than one million dollars, which currently exceeds 44 billion US dollars, the finance minister said.

Mustafa Kamal said, the size of the budget in the fiscal year 2005-06 was 61 thousand crores, which has increased by ten times in the current fiscal year. Average human life expectancy has increased from 59 years in 2005-06 to 72.6 years in 2019-20.

Infant mortality rate decreased from 84 to 28 per thousand and maternal mortality rate from 370 to 165 per lakh. In the financial year 2005-06, the allocation for social security sector was 2 thousand 505 crores.

In the current financial year, the allocation is 95 thousand 574 crores. The production of grain crops increased from 1 crore 8 million metric tonnes in 2005-06 to 4 crore 53 lakh 44 thousand metric tonnes at present. Power generation capacity has increased from 4 thousand 900 MW to 25 thousand 227 MW. The finance minister also said that the electricity beneficiary population has increased from 47 to 99 percent.
