Ramisa murder: Accused Sohail's family also wants punishment


The parents and relatives of Sohail Rana, the accused in the murder case of Class II student Ramisa Akhtar in Pallabi, Dhaka, have demanded strict punishment. They say, “The crime he has committed is unpardonable. We will accept whatever punishment the law gives.”

Sohail Rana's home is Maheshchandrapur village of Natore. Talked with his family, relatives and locals on Thursday (May 21). It can be seen there, the whole area is in awe and silence. Even the people of the village cannot accept the news of the brutal incident.

Locals said that Sohail Rana was known only as 'Rana' as a child. After studying up to class 5, he did not go to school again. Later he became known in the local politics. Over time he added 'SM' before his name. He went to Dhaka and became known as 'Sohel Rana'.

Neighbor Abdul Awal said, “From childhood, he was a bit restless. He was jailed for stealing construction materials of a local bridge at a young age. Later, after moving to Dhaka, contact with the village decreased.”

According to local sources, Sohail Rana got married for the second time after separating from his first wife. He moved to Dhaka with his second wife four years ago. Since then, his contact with his family was almost cut off.

When Maheshchandrapur went to the market, he talked with Rana's uncle Rezaul Karim. He said that Runner was a bicycle repair shop in the market before going to Dhaka.

Rezaul Karim said, “Rana was a bicycle maker before. The first marriage did not last. Later he got married again and moved to Dhaka. I hear he committed a terrible crime there. We want exemplary punishment for him.”

Going to Sohail Rana's house, it is seen that the impression of shame has descended on the small house with tin fence and tin canopy. When he called from outside, his mother Khadeja Begum came out.

Talking about her son, she tearfully said, “All parents want the best for their children. But, after what Rana has done, he cannot be loved anymore. He has killed an innocent child. We want justice for him. We want severe punishment.”

Father Jaker Ali expressed disappointment and said, “It's hard to think that my son could do such a thing. But, he has committed the crime. We will accept what the law-court judges.”

Mizanur Rahman, a resident of the area, said, “Killing a small child cannot be accepted in any way. We want a speedy trial and a punishment so that no one dares to commit such a crime in the future.”

The murder of Ramisa has spread across the country, including on social media. Common people are demanding speedy trial of this incident and maximum punishment for the guilty.
