The fate of the match was written by then. Rajasthan's rate is only a matter of time. Gurjat Titans are gearing up for yet another IPL final. But all the lights seem to be looking for a face, Baibhay Suryavanshi.
What the 15-year-old wonder boy did from the beginning of the IPL to the final, what he showed, how he bowled the bowlers, was written in the indelible ink of history. Scored the season's highest 776 runs at a strike rate of 237.30 in 16 innings. Suryavanshi broke Chris Gayle's record of 59 sixes in an IPL match. His number of sixes is 72.
Suryavanshi became the owner of the fastest thousand runs in IPL. It took 440 balls for him to get 1000 runs. The record of 545 balls was held by Caribbean star Andre Russell. He has made many more records. But the 15-year-old boy could not bear the pain of not being able to reach the finals. So he was seen repeatedly hiding his face in the dugout. Water was rolling down the eyes. Suryavanshi's lack of a title after so much success is one of the cruellest moments.
He could have scored four centuries in the IPL! But only one century next to the name. All three are out in the nineties. He was dismissed for 97 and 93 before a 96 in the second qualifier. Suryavanshi participated in the IPL for the second time. He scored 252 runs with a century in 7 innings at a strike rate of 206.55 for Rajasthan in the first season last year. Rajasthan got Suryavanshi for only 1 crore 10 lakh rupees.
Rishabh Pant is now the most expensive cricketer in IPL history. He is playing in Lucknow Super Giants for 27 crore rupees. However, former Indian opener Virender Sehwag feels that Suryavanshi's salary should be at least Rs 30 crore next year.
Meanwhile, there are many talks about getting a call to the national team. Sunil Gavaskar wants to see him in the national team now. Rajasthan coach Kumar Sangakkara echoed the same, “Until he steps on the field, one doesn't know how ready he is. But the way Vaivab has shown against some of the best bowlers in the world, I think he is fully prepared to take on whatever challenge you throw in front of him. I am sure he will get a call-up very soon.”
The end of Suryavansi is difficult. His tears after losing the match went viral after being shown on television screens and on social media. Suryavanshi's name will be remembered by the cricket world for sure. But this cry of his has touched the hearts of millions of cricket lovers.
