After 17 years of murdering his wife in Sylhet, the murdering husband Sirajul Islam (50) has been executed.
Senior Jail Superintendent of Sylhet Central Jail Mohammad Manjur Hossain confirmed the execution information.
He was hanged at Sylhet's newly built Central Jail at 11pm on Thursday. This is the first case of execution in this new jail in Sylhet. Sirajul Islam is the son of deceased Abul Hossain of Rajnagar village of Habiganj Sadar Upazila.
Sylhet Central Jail Senior Jail Superintendent Mohammad Manjur Hossain said executioner Mohammad Shahjahan executed the death sentence. Sylhet Deputy Commissioner M Kazi Emdadul Islam, Sylhet DIG (Prisons) Mohammad Kamal Hossain, Superintendent of Police Mohammad Farid Uddin, Sylhet Civil Surgeon Dr. Premanand Mandal and related officials.
According to the details of the case, on March 7, 2004, Sirajul Islam killed his wife, mother of 3 children, Sahida Akhtar, by hitting her with a knife and a knife. In this incident, a murder case was registered at Habiganj Sadar Police Station. On February 28, 2007, the judge of Sylhet Divisional Speedy Trial Tribunal ordered the execution of accused Sirajul Islam. Sirajul appealed to the High Court against this verdict.
On August 1, 2012, the High Court upheld the lower court's death sentence in an appeal. After that, when the accused Sirajul appealed to the President for life, it was also rejected.
After all the legal steps, the prison authorities started the process of execution of Sirajul on Thursday. On Thursday afternoon, one of Sirajul's brothers went to the jail and met him for the last time. Later in the evening, Imam Maulana Habibur Rahman of Kara Mosque recited Tauba and Kalema to him. At 11 pm executioner Shah Jahan executed the accused Sirajul.
