West Bengal Legislative Assembly's letter to Bangladesh Mission paying tribute to Khaleda Zia

The details of the condolence program held in the West Bengal Legislative Assembly on the death of former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia have been officially informed to the Bangladesh Deputy High Commission in Kolkata.

Khaleda Zia died on December 30 last year while undergoing treatment at Evercare Hospital in Dhaka. After her death, at the beginning of the session of the West Bengal Legislative Assembly on February 3 this year, a condolence proposal was accepted in memory of Khaleda Zia and various late eminent persons, former ministers, present and former legislators of the state.

A minute's silence was observed during the condolence in the assembly. The session was adjourned for the next day. The session resumed on February 5 with the Governor's address.

This time, the minutes of the condolence session were officially sent to the Bangladesh Mission by the West Bengal Legislative Assembly. On June 2, the Chief Secretary of the Legislative Assembly, Soumendra Nath Bose, sent a letter to the Deputy High Commissioner of Bangladesh in Kolkata and informed the matter.

It is mentioned in the letter that part of the condolence message received on the death of Khaleda Zia is being sent in the assembly session of February 3, 2026 on the instructions of the state government. It has also been requested to convey the message to his family members.

In political circles, this step is considered to be significant in terms of mutual diplomatic and humanitarian relations between Bangladesh and West Bengal.
