The Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) has arrested 68 people for allegedly participating in the jhtica march of the banned Chhatra League in Chittagong city. Awami League, Jubo League and Chhatra League leaders and activists at various levels are among the arrested persons.
According to CMP press release on Tuesday (June 2) evening, they were arrested in separate raids in different areas under Chittagong police station. The campaign is still going on.
CMP Assistant Commissioner (Sadar) Aminur Rashid said, “So far 68 people have been arrested in a coordinated operation of 16 police stations on charges of participating in the jhatika march of banned organizations. The work is on to identify others involved by analyzing video footage and intelligence.”
According to police sources, on Monday morning, a group of young people took out a sudden procession in GEC Mor area of ​​Chittagong city. Later, several videos of the procession spread on social media. In the video, the participants are seen chanting various slogans including 'Joy Bangla' and 'Sheikh Hasina will come'.
It has been found that the procession was taken out by the leaders and activists of the Omragani MES College branch Chhatra League. Witnesses said the procession started from the GEC area and went up to Gate No. 2 intersection.
Based on the videos spread on social media and various intelligence information, the law enforcement forces are conducting an operation to identify and arrest those involved.
According to the police, legal action will continue to be taken against those involved in the activities of banned organizations.
