Four more people were rescued alive on Saturday (May 30) after being stuck in flood waters for 10 days in a cave in a remote mountain area of Laos.
Rescue teams from Laos and Thailand reported this information. This success came after another was rescued the day before. However, two are still missing and rescue operations are on. BBC news.
According to the media report, on May 20, seven local villagers entered a narrow cave in a remote mountainous area in Laos' Zaisombun province in search of gold. But due to a sudden landslide, water entered the cave and they were trapped inside.
Rescuers found only five of them alive last Wednesday (May 27). The other two are still missing.
The rescuers said that this cave, which is spread deep underground, is very narrow and complex. Some of its chambers are only 50 centimeters (20 inches) wide.
According to a post on the Facebook page of 'Thailand Rescue Divers', the four people were successfully pulled out at 3:10 p.m. local time today, Saturday.
However, the exact process by which they were safely extracted has not yet been disclosed in detail.
In a video circulating on social media, a wave of joy broke out between the rescue workers and the onlookers after the four men came out of the cave. One of the rescued men was smiling as he walked towards the makeshift medical tent, while the other three became emotional hugging the rescuers.
Later, the four people were seen lying on a stretcher and giving first aid.
The rescue operation was successful at a time when experts first planned to pump out the water in the cave, which was blocking the way for the trapped people to get out to safety.
After that attempt initially failed, an alternative and last resort was to teach the trapped people to scuba dive and swim.
The rescue operation caught the attention of the international diving community. More help arrived at the scene yesterday Friday.
Expert divers from different countries, including Thailand, Indonesia, France and Australia, came to Laos to join the rescue work to provide additional expertise and support in the rescue work.
It should be noted that in 2018, the youth football team was trapped in a cave in Laos' neighboring Thailand for 18 days, causing a stir around the world. Thai divers experienced in that rescue operation have also participated in the operation in Laos this time.
