Motorcycle accident during Argentina supporters' procession, 4 injured

Four people were injured in a motorcycle accident during the joyous procession of Argentina supporters in Shariatpur.

The incident took place in front of the gates of Bir Shresh Shaheed Lansnaik Munshi Abdur Rauf Stadium in the city on Saturday (June 6) afternoon.

According to local and eyewitness sources, a colorful motorcycle and truck procession was taken out in Shariatpur on Saturday afternoon by the initiative of Argentina fans club. The procession left the Sadar Upazila premises and crossed the main road of the city towards the Manohar Bazar Mor area. As Bir Shreshtha Shaheed Lansnaik reached the gate of Munshi Abdur Rauf Stadium, a motorcycle in the fleet rammed an autorickshaw parked in front. As a result, two Argentine supporters riding a motorcycle and an autorickshaw driver and a passenger were injured. Later they were sent to Sadar Hospital.

An eyewitness named Billal Hossain said, “Some boys in the motorcycle fleet of Argentina supporters came in disorder. Seeing the procession, the autorickshaw driver pulled over and stopped his car. A motorcycle hit the back of the autorickshaw. As a result, several people were injured.”

Sujan Molla, a member of the Argentina Fans Club and organizer of the Anand Sobhayatra, said, “Many of the elderly took part in the procession. They could not control the motorcycle as the speed was high. After the accident, the injured were treated at Sadar Hospital. I sent my representative to look for them.”
