Two vice-chancellor posts reshuffled in Jabi

Two vice-chancellor posts of Jahangirnagar University (JABI) have been changed. Professor of Government and Politics Department as Vice-Chancellor (Education). Shamsul Alam and Professor Muhammad Nazrul Islam of Mathematics Department have been appointed as Vice-Chancellor (Administration). At the same time, two vice-chancellors in charge have been relieved.

On Saturday (June 6) by order of the President, the Assistant Secretary of the Ministry of Education. The appointment was announced through four separate notifications signed by Sultan Ahmed.

According to the notification, Professor of Government and Politics Department has been appointed as the new Vice-Chancellor (Education) of the University. Shamsul Alam. On the other hand, Professor Muhammad Nazrul Islam of Mathematics Department has been appointed as Vice-Chancellor (Administration).
The terms of appointment state that they shall hold their respective posts for the next four years or till the date of retirement—whichever occurs earlier—as per Section 13(1) of the Jahangirnagar University Order, 1973, with the approval of the President and the Chancellor. They will receive salary and allowances equivalent to the current post and will be stationed on the University campus full-time. Apart from this, he will perform the prescribed duties and exercise the powers given by the Vice-Chancellor as per the laws and statutes of the University.

On the other hand, two officers appointed as Vice-Chancellors on September 18, 2024 have been relieved through a separate notification. From the post of vice-chancellor (education). M. Mahfuzur Rahman has been relieved and allowed to join his original post as Professor of Botany.

In addition, from the post of vice-chancellor (administration). Sohail Ahmed has been relieved and allowed to join his department as a professor in the Department of Biochemistry and Anthropology.
